PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia 76ers had a chance to inch a bit closer in th
e play-in tournament as they played host to the Chicago Bulls on Monday night.
They entered the contest on a 7-game losing skid, yet only 1.5 games back of
the Bulls for the final play-in spot in the East so this was a golden opportun
ity for them.
Instead, they got squashed. After scoring the first bucket of the game for the
ir only lead of the night, the Bulls got whatever they wanted. They had a layu
p line at the rim as they scored 39 points in the first quarter and then 40 in
the third. They led the Sixers by as many as 50 on their way to an easy 142-1
10 win as they now lead Philadelphia by 2.5 games for the final play-in spot.

Paul George, who had 19 points for the Sixers, was very blunt about the Sixers
' struggles in the loss. "We just gotta be more dialed in," George started. "M
ore effort. More energy and more pride on the defensive end. Again, it's the s
ame conversations we've been having of low communication. It baffles me just h
ow easy we give layups in this league. Just don't understand it."

lt the same. Philadelphia has been struggling on the defensive end and is givi
ng up so many easy buckets. Chicago shot 50.6% from the floor on Monday while
shooting 18-for-40 from deep and 34-for-36 from the line.
Those are numbers that playoff teams, let alone title contenders, just don't g
ive up. It doesn't matter that Joel Embiid did not play in this one. The Sixer
s have continued to say that the goal and the focus is to make the play-in and
the playoffs, but the effort has said otherwise.

d try to just keep going for one another, but we’ve shown no signs of—forget
championship, but a playoff contending team here."
Maybe the challenges of the season have finally caught up to them. The Sixers
have dealt with a ton of injuries and it just seems that the hits keep coming.
