SpaceX is beginning to send out invitations for its Starlink public beta
program in the United States, primarily in Washington.
The public beta program is called “Better Than Nothing Beta,” according to
the email invitation sent to prospective participants, which was posted
online by the Reddit user.Fourth Echelon19.
“As you can see from the title, we are trying to lower your initial
expectations,” the email says. The Starlink team notes that beta
participants can expect to see data rates range from 50 Mbps to 150 Mbps and
latency from 20 ms to 40 ms over the next several months.
The email notes that some disruptions in connectivity are expected. It is
worth noting that the email does not mention data limits.
“As we launch more satellites, install more ground stations, and improve our
network software, data rates, latency, and uptime will dramatically improve.
For latency, we expected to reach 16 ms to 19 ms by summer 2021, ”the email
states.
Pricing wise, the Starlink phased-array user terminal, mounting tripod, and
Wi-Fi router cost $ 499 USD (approximately $ 657 CAD). The monthly
subscription costs $ 99 USD (approximately $ 130 CAD).
SpaceX’s application for a Basic International Telecommunications Services
(BITS) license was recently approved by the Canadian Radio, Television and
Telecommunications Commission (CRTC).
It is worth noting that a BITS license alone does not authorize SpaceX to
operate as a service provider. The company must now be listed as a fixed
satellite service operator in the CRTC.
Elon Musk recently tweeted that SpaceX will hopefully be able to launch a
public beta in Canada once the satellites reach their positions.
Unfortunately, there is no clear idea when exactly this could happen.
SpaceX has also launched a Starlink iOS app Y Android Users. The app will
help beta participants identify the installation location that would ensure
the best quality of service and will also allow users to check for
obstructions that could interfere with service.
Also, the app can help users configure their Starlink hardware and verify
their Wi-Fi connection. It can also be used to run speed tests, troubleshoot
connectivity issues, and contact support.
Starlink aims to leverage an extensive network of hundreds of Low Earth Orbit
(LEO) satellites to provide high-speed Internet in parts of the US and Canada.
心得:
可惜目前限定美國,
以使用場景和網路規格,99USD真的不錯
那些有線網路還不到100M,延遲爆炸的真的不知說什麼...
