United States President Donald Trump pledged to place tariffs on "foreign prod
uction of computer chips, semiconductors and pharmaceuticals," in hopes of ret
urning production of these "essential" goods to the US.
"They left us and left for Taiwan and we want them to come back," he said. "An
d we don't want to give them billions of dollars, like this ridiculous program
that Biden has," he stressed, noting that what these companies lacked to retu
rn to the US was "incentive." This incentive, Trump said, "is they're not gonn
a want to pay a 25%, 50% or even 100% tax."
"They're going to build their factory with their own money," Trump said, addin
g that "they're going to come in because its good for them to come in." He str
essed that his administration is going to "look at pharmaceuticals, chips, sem
iconductors, steel and some other industries."
